Air Cargo Development for Major Retailer at BWI Airport

Line Graphic

AFCO leveraged strong relationships, expertise and an unmatched finance capacity to fast-track air cargo capacity for a major e-commerce retailer.

AFCO and the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA), which operates Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), joined forces to respond to a major e-commerce retailer’s request to begin operations at BWI in 2017.

Win-Win Negotiations

As the owner/landlord of 60,000 square feet of air cargo space, AFCO worked swiftly to relocate current tenants to meet the space requirements for the retailer. AFCO’s expertise in negotiations and ability to finance the transactions allowed for positive outcomes for the previous tenants and AFCO’s new client.

AFCO Moves Mountains

When the same retailer expressed demand for additional special-use air cargo capacity, AFCO stepped up by exercising its existing land development rights and began negotiations to build a new 200,000 square feet of cargo warehouse and 450,000 square feet of aircraft parking apron, capable of accommodating large, wide-body airplanes. AFCO and the MAA worked collaboratively to fast-track the necessary permits and approvals to allow the project to become a reality. Thanks to AFCO’s pre-existing business relationships and extensive knowledge on how special use development works, AFCO delivered this project on-time and on-budget in Fall 2019.
